The League
The Tournaments for DDSIL have been successfully being
organized for the last 18 years since 1985 and was started
by a US Embassy Diplomat Lance Hamilton and Aashish Khanna.
The idea to hold it was to promote friendship and social
activities in between the Diplomats, Ex pat communities
posted to India with the locals and ofcourse play some
good football. However over the number of years besides
a lot of amateur players a number of very good players
have also participated in the tournaments.
A number of venues have been used over the years including
DPS - Mathura Road, DPS - R.K.Puram, British School,
American School, US Embassy, Modern School - Barakhamba
Road & Asian Games DDA Sports Complex.
Over the years a number of expats and Diplomats besides
myself have taken over and run the tournament successfully
including Paul Zalucky, Marc Sageman (US Embassy), Bob
Gould (American School), Greg, Rob, James Sharp (British
High Commission), Andras Hrabwoszki, Gabor Czigany (Hungarian
Embassy), Jaroslav Chlebo (Slovak Embassy), Thomas Busch
(German Embassy), Klaus Petersen (Danish Embassy), Drazen
Drakulic (Croatian Embassy). |
Participating
members this year:
A number of high ranking officials of the Embassies/High
commissions and Expat community participate in both the
tournaments however from last 2 years we have also encouraged
the participation of corporate teams, over 35 years age
teams and also ex student teams. The teams playing this
year will have players from the Embassies, High Commissions
and ex pat communities of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan,
Uzbekistan, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, France,
Switzerland, Italy, Austria, UK, Germany, Spain, Brazil,
Argentina, Peru, Portugal, Zimbabwe, Zaire, Nigeria, Kenya,
United Nations, European Commission, Czech Republic, Slovakia,
International Red Cross, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Bosnia,
Germany, Hungary, Poland, USA, Canada, Ex Students of
Bishop Cotton School, Ex Students of DPS, Ex Students
of Mayo College, Ex students of Doon School. Corporate's
like IMG, GE, GE Capital, Siemens, IBM, TERI, Nokia, Suzuki,
GM Motors, Mercedes, Canon India, Jet Airlines, Lufthansa,
ICGEB, P.M.Packers, Shimla Cottages and many others have
been also invited to participate.
